This week I reminded students about a great resource, BOOKFLIX, where they can find fiction book "flix" paired with a nonfiction eBook, as well as other activities, resources and links to dive a little deeper into many topics of interest. Check it out by clicking on the bookflix links in this post or pic below. If your child doesn't remember the username/password to log in, send Mrs. Morley and email at peggymorley@alpinedistrict.org and she can give you the details.

A favorite of Miss Mather for this First Chapter Friday...HOOT
I also loved this book when I read it years ago.

Creativity and Compassion

This week in library we will be celebrating International Dot Day and I will be encouraging students to tap into their creativity & compassion as I share a chance encounter I had this weekend meeting someone who truly displayed both of these characteristics. I’m excited about opportunities our students will have to use their creativity through Reflections and the Children’s Holiday Market coming up and hope to help get students excited about it too.

Origami

This week at summer library we practiced doing origami. The link below will take you to a video that shows how to make an origami shirt that you can turn into a Father’s Day card of you would like. Have fun!

See you at summer library on Wednesdays!

Thank you to everyone that came to summer library last week, it was great to see so many of you!  The reading tents were such a hit I think we’ll leave them up all summer. Remember, even if you can’t come every week for summer library, you’re welcome to come whenever you are able to. Don’t forget to follow the library @ libertyhillslibrary on Instagram.

Even Mr. Eagar loves our newest reading tent! It will be set up all summer.

April is National Poetry Month!

This month we will be exploring some of the many different ways to write poetry. We even have a poet-tree in the library that students can hang their poems on to share them if they would like. If you haven't heard of Kenn Nesbitt before, he has a poetry website, poetry4kids, linked below with a lot of fun poems and activities just for kids.

Dewey

As we talk about nonfiction, and how it is organized by the Dewey decimal system, I couldn't help but think about Dewey the library cat. Have you heard about Dewey? Here is a video that tells a little about Dewey the library cat. We have a collection of cats in our library too, but they are not alive.

I am so excited to be physically back in the library with students!

We have been spending a bit of time talking about library behavior and how the library is organized by alphabet or number order. Since we haven't been coming to the library for awhile we're working hard to get back into the swing of how/where to find books and keeping the library organized. Here is a game I will be introducing to students this week that helps us practice alphabet and number (Dewey) order.

This week I am demonstrating how students can use the researcher and put books on hold at home. You can access the researcher by clicking on the "researcher" option under online resources to the right of this blog. Once there, students can log in with their student ID as their username and their last name as the password. Once they find a book they want to check out, simply click the hold button, verify that they do want that book on hold, then Mrs. Morley will be notified and will get the books students request as soon as they are available. Below is a link to a video demonstrating the process if you would like to see how it is done.
