BOOK FAIR

Next week, November 18th - 22nd, we will have our first Liberty Hills book fair in the library. You should be getting a flyer that has more information. You are also welcome to come to the book fair with during our grand lunch on either Wednesday or Thursday.

Shadow Puppets

We are experimenting with puppets and storytelling this week in the library through 4 different stations, one of the stations is a shadow puppet theater. The students helped cut out shapes last week that we are using to create the shadows with. November book fair

It is common for elementary schools to have their book fairs during parent teacher conference week but unfortunately Scholastic was unable to supply a book fair for our school during our October conferences. We will however be having our first Liberty Hills book fair in November and hope to see you there! Thank you for your patience as we are getting things into place at our new school.

The Survivor Tree

RESTART by Gordon Korman

One book that I read this summer and really liked was Restart by Gordon Korman. Restart is about a boy, Chase, that gets amnesia and can't remember anything after falling off the roof of his house. I liked this book because Chase gets a chance to restart his life in a unique way. As he slowly realizes that he was a bully in the past, he struggles with deciding who he wants to be NOW. One thing that he discovers is that he doesn't want to be like the guys that used to be his best friends. 

Even though it isn't very likely that many of us fall off a roof and get amnesia, we do have a choice every day to be the person we want to be. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to make choices that may not be the popular thing to do, to be different, but this book taught me the importance of being brave and true to who you really are.

HAPPY!

I am thrilled that I have had the opportunity to be a part of setting up the brand new library at Liberty Hills! When I was interviewing for this job my son-in-law sent me the clip above in a text, wishing me luck on my interview. Though I can be a little reserved on the outside, this is exactly how I felt when I found out I WOULD get to work in the library at Liberty Hills. I look forward to getting to know each of you as we PAWS to read in the library at Liberty Hills.

Why I love the library!

I grew up on a farm in Idaho and do not remember having books around much as a child. I was a good reader, and read everything that was assigned at school, but it didn't occur to me that people would read for fun. I didn't see others reading outside of school and did not even have a library in my elementary school where I could check books out and take them home. Not having books around in my early years has given me a passion to make the library I work in a space that everyone will appreciate and enjoy spending time in. I believe the library isn't just a place of reading but a place of curiosity, exploration and gathering. I truly believe it is the heart of the school and I will do everything I can to make our library a place that touches the hearts of all those that enter the doors.
